Bridgnorth Rugby club’s on top form

Bridgnorth Rugby Club is enjoying a fine run in its second season under the guidance of coaching brothers Bryan and Dale Smallman.

The club has also been active in the local community, with a ‘flash mob’ carol singing event on the high street in December and a focus day to involve younger members. The club also staged yet another successful firework extravaganza, attended by over 3,000 people in what is becoming a hotly anticipated fixture on the Bridgnorth calendar.

Club chairman Peter Parkes said, “We’re playing rugby at a very high standard now and it would be great to see more people come and support on match days. We’re also keen to involve the club’s younger members on Saturdays. We’re getting more exposure in primary schools in the area with our Community Coaching Scheme and school tournaments.”

The junior teams have also been enjoying success – the Under 10’s squad have reached the finals of the Leicester Tigers tournament which will be held at the famous Premiership Welford Road stadium in February 2015.

“This is a magnificent achievement, especially when you consider that our small market town is competing against teams representing the cities of Nottingham and Northampton,” said club president Alun Stoll. “Best of luck to them and thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers who contribute to the club, as well as firework sponsors Bridgnorth Aluminium Ltd.”
