Prayers for the Prince

Students from Moreton Hall met HRH the Prince of Wales, patron of the Prayer Book Society, at the Society’s thirtieth annual Cranmer Awards Competition at Lambeth Palace in London in February.

In front of a panel of judges which included composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, actress Prunella Scales and novelist PD James, the finalists recited passages they had memorised from Thomas Cranmer’s 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

Addressing the finalists at the prizegiving, HRH Prince of Wales said, “I believe the Prayer Book is a glorious part of every English speaker’s heritage.”

The Moreton Hall school finalists were Zoe Tse, Florence Tyne, Aghoghomena Akpoteni and Isabella Harpin. Isabella says, “I was really nervous to meet Prince Charles and perform the reading but he made it exciting and welcoming. Meeting him was such fun and a once in a lifetime experience!”
