Much Wenlock wildlife rescue centre Cuan House is about to embark on a major fundraising programme with the support of its new patron, actor and writer John Challis.
The popular TV and stage actor, best known as 'Boycie' in the series Only Fools and Horses and Green Green Grass, has become patron of Cuan House as the centre begins to raise money for a new purpose-built base.
It seems a logical connection for John, who is already an active patron of the African wildlife preservation charity Tusk, and who lives not far from Ludlow, to become a patron of Cuan House. "It's extremely important that we support wildlife causes at home and abroad," said John. "Without the efforts of the people who run these charities, our wild animal populations would suffer, many are in danger of losing their natural habitats and many would die because of man-made hazards. Cuan House does an amazing job and I would urge everyone to support them in this new and exciting fundraising effort."
Cuan House was founded by Megan Morris-Jones and is now run by Megan, her daughter Anna Nicholas and son-in-law Sean Nicholas – Anna and Sean are both professional fire-fighters and work within the wildlife centre when not on duty.
"To have John Challis on board as patron is phenomenal, he understands wildlife issues completely and we are massively grateful for his support," said Sean. "This year marks Cuan House's 21st anniversary and we are determined to raise enough money to build a new centre – but we need people to support our fundraising efforts. We currently take in injured or orphaned wild animals from across the county and our current premises are only just big enough to cope with the demand."
