William Brookes becomes Academy

On 1 June the Secretary of State for Education awarded William Brookes School in Much Wenlock Academy status. This move will give the school management team and governors greater autonomy in terms of being able to direct spending into specific areas of need for the school and its students.

Head teacher Geoff Renwick said, “We’re taking some big steps forward and are keen to make sure that the vision and strategic direction include the views of staff, students, parents and the local community. This is an exciting time for the school and we’re all looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

MP for Ludlow Philip Dunne congratulated the school on the news: “Academies form an integral part of the government’s education policy to raise attainment for all children and to bring about sustained improvements to all schools.”
