Shropshire firm’s ‘outstanding’ care recognised

At a time when the social care sector faces major challenges, Positive Steps Shropshire Limited is shining a light on the skill, compassion and teamwork of its staff.

The Positive Steps team (pictured) have been rated “Outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), a tribute to their ethos of kindness, respect and flexibility. Staff have helped people achieve lifelong goals such as getting married, following their football teams and enjoying holidays both at home and abroad. They also support people to improve their living environments, from decorating and re-fitting bathrooms to maintaining a greenhouse and growing vegetables.

The team has made a tangible difference in health and employment too. In one case, a support worker identified a potentially serious medical condition and used their expertise to push for urgent treatment. Others have worked with employers to secure adjustments that allow people to keep jobs and develop new skills. Even small but important touches, like finding alternative places of worship, show their commitment to inclusion and respect.

The CQC report reinforced how life-changing this approach can be, declaring: ‘People were supported by an exceptionally kind, compassionate and engaging staff team which was evident across all levels of Positive Steps Shropshire Limited. People had their dignity and privacy respected and promoted by those supporting them.’
