50 years of Bridgnorth Rugby Club

On a cold January day in 1962, a motley assortment of young men assembled on the Crown Meadow for the first ever training session for what is now Bridgnorth Rugby Club. Stalwart Bob Turner was amongst them and is proud that the club has grown and flourished, marking its 50th Anniversary this year with over 300 members. There are a whole host of celebrations planned to mark the milestone, including a Valentine’s Ball on 11th February and a Summer Ball on 23rd June, a number of tournaments, including minis and juniors, girls and ladies and, of course, the veterans.

The Anniversary year kicks off on the evening of 6th January, with an informal get together at the rugby club. Anyone who has been involved with the club at any time is invited to come along to celebrate the date and reminisce about the old days. Bob Turner (one of What’s Whats very own Local Hero’s from 2010) is also putting together a History of the Club and would love to hear from anyone who has information or old photos. He can be contacted on bob@bestinthecountry.co.uk or telephone 01746 760493. Or for more information about the Rugby Clubs Diamond celebrations do look at the website www.bridgnorthrfc.co.uk.
