Recently retired Shropshire vet Jessica Keane has published her first children’s book, Mia is Lost.
Jessica is a member of Writers on the Edge, a creative writing group that is part of the Much Wenlock U3A. Having worked for many years as a vet, first in Much Wenlock and later in Telford at Gladstone Vets, she retired in 2020 to follow her second passion in life, writing. Inspired by the local woodlands and her grandchildren, she has created an animal adventure story for her first publication.
Mia is a curious, cheeky kitten looking for adventure. Tempted by the mysterious forest behind her back garden she ventures in. Soon she is lost. Night falls, a thunderstorm strikes and hungry foxes prowl. Will Mia’s friends find the scared kitten before it is too late? The neighbourhood cats ask a wise owl to lead the search.
Bats with superpowers, two kind deer, a forgetful squirrel and a nosy hedgehog all play their part in this big-hearted animal adventure story.
The book is aimed at competent readers between six and nine years old but can also work as a read-to book for less competent or younger readers. The chapter book contains 18 beautiful illustrations painted by local artist Sue Richards.
Jessica and Sue will be at The Orbit in Wellington to launch Mia is Lost on Saturday February 11 between 11am and 1pm and will be available for signing copies. Mia is Lost is now available on Amazon as paperback and kindle under the author’s name JK Keane.
