Top of the table

A group of students from Shrewsbury College’s Severndale Specialist Academy’s Futures Campus are set to compete in the finals of the Lord’s Taverners Table Cricket championships at Lord’s this summer after winning county and regional heats earlier in the year.

The team of six said they felt honoured that they had been crowned Shropshire Table Cricket Champions in Telford and when asked what their reaction was when they realised they had won, they explained, “The first thing we did was to shake the opposition’s hand because it’s the right thing to do… we celebrated afterwards – we cheered, hugged each other, and smiled from ear to ear.”

The team went into the Edgbaston regionals thinking they had a 50/50 chance as they knew they would be up against excellent opposition. Their final match was against last year’s national champions, but they kept their cool, focused and found that all the practice they’d done beforehand paid off when it came to the crunch.
