A local historian has been raising a glass to his newest book – and readers might find they’re tempted to follow suit. This October has seen the publishing of Inns and Alehouses of Bridgnorth, which has taken Clive Gwilt 45 years to perfect and includes over 220 pubs.
Born in Bridgnorth, Clive joined the Merchant Navy in 1976 and while at sea started researching the town’s history. His first foray into publishing came with a town guide that was published in 1976. To date, Clive has published about 30 books including volumes on Bridgnorth’s foundation with the castle, visitor attractions, and historic walks. In June this year, he published a Historic Tour Book through Amberley Publishers, which is available from Bridgnorth Library’s Information Centre.
