Derwen poppies

Students from a specialist college in Craven Arms created a poignant poppy display outside their building to remember those who fought and died during WWI. Working together with learning support assistant Claire Crippin, learners from the college created a montage to mark 100 years since the end of WW1 and to remember those who have died in subsequent wars.

Claire Crippin explains how students had made a commitment to the project as part of their enrichment activities: “Students and tutors worked tirelessly collecting materials, mostly recycled, towards the overall display. Following a visit to Cyril Bason Ltd, which supported the display, to source other materials, the students were introduced to Sharon Demos and David Evans, both directors of Cyril Bason and also town councillors, who then kindly donated products and poppies towards the display.”

The local community showed their appreciation by stopping to take photographs. One resident remarked, “What a delight to see – how proud the students should feel of their hard work.”
