Forty student police officers plus six experienced officers, including a police constable, two police sergeants and three detectives, will be joining or moving from other forces into West Mercia. They will be joined by 10 recruits on the Police Now programme working as police constables to help in the community. The officers will be assigned to roles across the policing area, with the student police officers being on patrol across Telford, Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

Leadership and Training Support team leader Andy McManus, Team Leader explains, “We’re delighted to welcome the latest intake of Police Now constables. We’ll now start training these graduates to become community leaders… representing the diversity of the public they serve and taking responsibility for the safety of up to 20,000 people. Young people’s confidence in the police has increased by 17% in the communities where Police Now neighbourhood police officers operate. By working with Police Now, West Mercia Police is helping to break the cycle of offending.”
