Keeping it in the family

The Cricket Shropshire Annual Awards was held at the Whitehouse Hotel in Telford in November – and one family in particular enjoyed their night out.

In the Boys Under 12 category, the winner was Jack Home of Shifnal Cricket Club (pictured). Jack dominated the batting through the season, scoring over 500 runs including three centuries and being the top run-scorer in the Shrewsbury School Under 12 Cricket Festival. Jack also chipped in with vital wickets when called upon to bowl. He was also picked as overall Shropshire Star Boys’ Player of the Year.

Joe Smallman of Bridgnorth Cricket Club picked up the award in the Boys Under 15 category, and Simon Gregory, also of Bridgnorth CC, was Coach of the Year. Alison Dunn of Cleobury Mortimer was named All Stars Champion of the Year, while Jack Home’s father Ed won the gong for Over 50s Player of the Year, meaning the Home family certainly had cause to celebrate 2018 as a great cricketing year.
