Sustainable Bridgnorth Chair Kath to step down

Kath Norgrove, pictured, is stepping down as Chair of Sustainable Bridgnorth after eight years, during which she also held essential roles in social media, correspondence, promotion, and programme planning.

Additionally, she served as the Refill Bridgnorth Local Champion and Plastic Free Communities Lead. Under her leadership, the group launched the Prevent Pointless Plastic campaign, contributing to Bridgnorth’s accreditation as a Plastic Free Community in 2020. In 2021, she was part of the Make One Change campaign, encouraging residents to replace one single-use plastic item, resulting in a pledged collective reduction of 18,720 plastic bottles annually—enough to stretch over 23 times the length of the Severn Valley Railway.

Kath was on the organising committee for two Green Festivals, aimed at raising awareness about sustainability and the environment. Her contributions have gained recognition, including being selected as a Baton Bearer for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay and being a finalist for the Environmental Professional of the Year Award.

Kath leaves a strong legacy of community engagement and environmental stewardship. To maintain momentum, Sustainable Bridgnorth is calling for new volunteers to fill Kath’s roles. Kath’s will step down at the Annual General Meeting and Repair Café event on September 12 at 7.30pm, which is free to attend with a ticket booked via Eventbrite. Repair Cafés are community projects where people fix broken items, such as electronics and clothes, saving money and reducing landfill waste.
