Bridgnorth’s cemetery wins national award

Bridgnorth Cemetery has received Gold Standard in the Cemetery of the Year Awards. It has been named the overall winner in the Parish, Town and Community Councils category, which recognises burial grounds managed by local community-level councils.

The national awards, run by the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM), recognise high standards within burial grounds across the country. Being named the overall winner in its category is a significant achievement for Bridgnorth and, in particular, for the Town Council team whose work throughout the year ensures that the cemetery remains a respectful, welcoming and well-maintained environment.

As well as being an operational service provided by the Council, Bridgnorth Cemetery is an important place for many local families. Maintaining its appearance and character, while ensuring it continues to meet the needs of those who use and visit it, requires considerable care and attention throughout the year.

Mayor of Bridgnorth Chris Aked said: “This is fantastic news for Bridgnorth and something we can all be very proud of. Our cemetery is a very special place for many people in our community, and this award recognises the care, dedication and pride our team puts into looking after it throughout the year.

“The high standards visitors see are the result of a great deal of work behind the scenes, and I would like to personally thank and congratulate everyone involved. To achieve Gold Standard and then be named the overall national winner in our category is fantastic recognition of their hard work and dedication.”
