William Brookes School has won a gold kitemark in a scheme that rewards schools who show a commitment to the development of competition across their school and the local community.
The Sainsbury’s School Games Team visited the school and was impressed by the strong extra curricular programmes; with three sports having A, B and C teams plus numerous opportunities for students to participate in clubs at lunchtime and after school. Interhouse, interschool and primary school events, where more than 20 per cent of students are involved as Junior Sports Leaders, also impressed the inspectors.
A spokesperson from the team said, “William Brookes School also has a strong policy in place to help support talented young sports people within the school to balance their sporting commitments with home and school life, through a Gifted and Talented Programme and providing athletes with funding/grants and staff support.”
