World class pianist heading for Shrewsbury

A prominent county music organisation has set out a varied and impressive programme for 2025, with a world-famous artist launching their events for the year.

The Shropshire Music Trust prides itself on offering line-ups featuring all aspects of classical and world music. The coming 12 months is no exception, with the trust attracting a range to top class musicians and vocalists to the county.

The first concert of the year sees Georgian pianist Mariam Batsashvili (pictured) playing in Shropshire for the first time in a programme including Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert. She won first prize in the 10th Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht in 2014 and has since performed in over 30 countries, playing in the world’s most famous venues. She was a judge at the Leeds Piano Competition in 2024.

“Mariam’s technique is flawless and she plays with passion and a deep understanding of the music,” said John Moore of Shropshire Music Trust.

The performance will be on Sunday January 19 from 2.30pm at St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury.
