The annual Bridgnorth Lions Walk returns for its 2026 edition on Bank Holiday Monday, 4 May. The ever-popular event offers a range of organised walks for all ages and abilities – from enthusiastic long-distance walkers to those who prefer a gentler stroll with time for a chat.

Now a well-established fixture in the town’s calendar, the event brings together local residents, families and visitors for a day of walking, fundraising and community activity (and usually some very mixed opinions about the weather).

All routes start and finish in the Bridgnorth area, with distances ranging from short, family-friendly walks to longer challenges through the Shropshire countryside.

Choice of Walks

Participants can choose a route to suit their fitness and experience. Walks are not timed and there is no pressure to walk at a particular pace. Whether you’re aiming for a longer challenge or planning a relaxed walk with children, the focus is firmly on taking part and enjoying the day – rather than checking your watch.

The Main Walk is designed for more confident walkers and those seeking a longer-distance challenge. In contrast, the new Short Walk – at just over nine miles – offers a more manageable option, while still making the most of quiet country roads and bridleways.

Both routes head out into the surrounding Shropshire countryside, following a mix of rural lanes and footpaths and offering plenty of outstanding scenery along the way. These are steady, rewarding walks rather than races, making them ideal for individuals and groups who prefer their challenges measured in miles, not minutes.

All routes are clearly signed and marshalled, with water and refreshment points provided.

The Junior & Family Walk is aimed at families with younger children and anyone looking for a shorter, more relaxed option. Taking place around Cleobury North, the route uses safe, manageable paths suitable for pushchairs and young walkers. The distance is shorter than the main routes, making it achievable for children while still giving them the satisfaction of completing a proper organised event – without anyone needing to be carried home.

Key features include:

  • Clearly signed and marshalled routes
  • A child-friendly distance
  • Start and finish area at Cleobury North with activities and entertainment
  • Access to food, refreshments and toilet facilities
  • Fairground rides and family-focused entertainment at the finish

Children who complete the walk receive recognition for their achievement, helping to build confidence, independence and enthusiasm for outdoor activity.

Fundraising and Community Partnership

The walk raises funds for a range of charitable causes supported by Bridgnorth Lions, helping local groups and individuals, as well as national and international projects.

Walkers are encouraged to collect sponsorship, either for the Lions’ chosen charities or for causes that are personally important to them.

For 2026, the event is supported by a new partnership with Dudley Building Society, following the launch of the Bridgnorth Lions Saver account.

The new Bridgnorth Lions Club Saver was designed to deliver competitive returns while a percentage of the total interest earned on the account will be donated directly to the Bridgnorth Lions. These funds will support the group’s charitable programmes and direct community assistance.

The partnership offers an additional way for the community to support the Lions’ charitable work through saving, alongside traditional fundraising activities such as the walk.

Activities and safety

Activities taking place across the town throughout the day of the walk include a craft market in the Lower High Street; live music and entertainment in the Upper High Street and family entertainment, rides and food at Cleobury North.

The event is organised and staffed by volunteers from Bridgnorth Lions and the local community. All routes are risk-assessed, with medical support available and traffic management in place where required.

More than 100 volunteers help with marshalling, refreshments and general event support.

The Bridgnorth Lions Walk is open to individuals, families, schools, clubs, workplaces and community groups. Dogs are welcome on leads.

Whether walking for charity, fitness or simply to enjoy a good day out, the Lions Walk 2026 offers a friendly, well-organised event with something for everyone.
