A county castle is turning back the clock for its Multi Period event in July. Whittington Castle near Shrewsbury has played witness to the changing events of over 2,000 years, and it’s inviting visitors to go back in time over the weekend of 28 July.
The event will include the Thegns of Mercia, an Anglo Saxon group who will deliver the story of the battle of Maserfield (Oswestry), while the Mercenaries of Mercia will take position in the Inner Bailey of the Castle to provide a Norman guard. The Poor Knights of St Dysmas and the House of the Black Star will provide medieval encampments, and there will also be depictions of scenes from 18th and 20th century warfare.
The castle is open from 10am to 4pm on each of the days, with entrance at £1 per child and £3 for an adult. Visit whittingtoncastle.co.uk for more information.
