A retired teacher from Bridgnorth has just returned from Uganda, where he has been teaching former South Sudanese street children. Nigel Amery, who co-owns Giovanni’s Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop on Cartway, has recently retired from teaching at Birchfield Prep School in Albrighton, where he was Head of Science.
Nigel was teaching girls at a children’s centre in Kampala during their summer holidays. The girls are South Sudanese and are being taught in Uganda by Confident Children Out of Conflict UK.
“All these girls are rescued by the charity and given a chance of an education. They are so eager to learn and remarkably advanced considering a big part of their early life was living on the street in South Sudan,” said Nigel.
