Get your flu jab!

Local medical practices are urging people to come and get their annual flu vaccination. Judy Latham from Bridgnorth Medical Practice said: “Those who have had a chronic disease or are over 65 years of age, regardless of how well they feel, should have the vaccination, as their immune system is not as efficient. The flu vaccination helps to protect from a potentially serious illness.” She explained that the target groups are all patients aged over 65 years, and all patients aged over 6 months in the clinical risk groups which include: chronic respiratory disease, chronic heart disease, chronic renal failure, chronic neurological disease, Diabetics and those with immuno-supression due to disease or treatment.

Others who should also book in for the jab include people staying in residential care homes, those who care for the elderly, people with Multiple Sclerosis and all pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy.

Patients should contact their local surgery to make an appointment, and most clinics start in October.
