Candlelit Christmas concert comes to Shropshire

One of Britain’s best choirs is visiting Shropshire for a festive performance of seasonal music and readings – and the event is expected to be a sell-out success.

Ex-Cathedra will perform Christmas by Candlelight at St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury, on Friday 6 December.

“We are delighted to welcome back Ex Cathedra, a choir which enjoys an international reputation,” says John Moore of organiser Shropshire Music Trust. Their December concert in St Chad’s is likely to be a sell-out – it is a wonderful way to start the festive season. Our audience will be able to unwind and enjoy an evening of enchanting music from across the ages.

“This year’s programme includes a mix of music from composers including a new edition of the 1591 favourite Coventry Carol, through to a contemporary piece by former Master of the Queen’s Music Dame Judith Weir.

“Liz Dilnot-Johnson, Ex Cathedra composer-in-residence, premieres her new work Ring out Wild Bells. Add a selection of readings that capture the mystery and humour of Christmas, and people won’t want to miss this popular, atmospheric concert.”

Over the course of the evening, artistic director Jeffrey Skidmore’s programme of music and readings explores the wonder of the season.

“It should be a fabulous evening of choral music in the magnificent setting of St Chad’s Church,” John added.

Tickets are £25 or £12.50 for children and students.
