Innovative orchestra to perform in Bridgnorth

An award-winning orchestra will perform in Bridgnorth on 26 November. The Welsh Chamber Orchestra (pictured) is set to play at St Mary Magdalene Church from 7.30pm, with a programme including works by Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn and Morfydd Owen, as well as a new composition by Susie Self featuring renowned Welsh baritone Jeremy Huw Williams.

The concert is part of the orchestra’s tour of some of the most beautiful churches in Shropshire.

John Moore, musical director of Shropshire Music Trust, which has arranged the visit, said that this was set to be a truly memorable evening, offering local people the opportunity to enjoy a performance by a top class orchestra in the stunning surroundings of St Mary Magdelene, also home of the English Haydn Festival.

“This is one of our collaborative events where the Trust is able to support music promoters around the county, enabling them to grow the range of high quality concerts available to their community,” he said.

Since its inception in 1986 the Welsh Chamber Orchestra has performed with many of the world’s greatest soloists, undertaken several European tours as well as giving concerts throughout the UK under conductor Anthony Hose, founder of the Buxton International Festival.

For many years it was resident chamber orchestra at the Swansea International Concert Series where its innovative policy of giving performances of works by Welsh composers was highly successful. It has recorded numerous television programmes, including a New York Film Festival prize-winning opera series.
