Say goodbye to plastic

In 2019 research revealed that 75% of the British public bought their lunch on-the-go each day generating a mind-blowing 11 billion items of packaging waste a year – a whopping 276 items per person every year!

Take-away food and drinks packaging is a leading villain in the fight against plastic pollution with coffee cups and take-away containers consistently in the top 10 items found on beaches around the world. An estimated 1,290 tonnes of plastic could be prevented from entering the environment each year through the use of reusable food containers when purchasing takeaway food. Over 100 health experts have stated that reusables are safe to use.

The Prevent Pointless Plastic campaign is supporting the national Refill app to help people looking to avoid single-use plastic where to find zero-waste shops, packaging-free options and also save money for using a reusable coffee cup or taking your own container when you get lunch on the go.

The app can be downloaded for free at https://www.refill.org.uk/ and businesses can register for free on the app to sign up as a Refill Station.
