On a December evening, St Leonard’s Church will once again be filled with the sound of a live orchestra, West End stars and festive favourites. It’s the kind of evening you might expect to find in London’s theatre district – yet this Christmas it’s happening in the heart of Bridgnorth.
Following the success of last year’s sell-out Broadway to Bridgnorth, Yellow Ticket Productions returns with A West End Christmas on 19 and 20 December, an uplifting celebration of musical theatre featuring acclaimed West End performers and a live orchestra, with the full line-up to be announced. It’s another opportunity for local audiences to experience the excitement of the West End without leaving Shropshire.
But while the Christmas concert is the headline event, it represents something much bigger.
Yellow Ticket Productions was founded by Bridgnorth residents Chris and Lucy Key, Jessie Hart and Alfonso Casado Trigo, four theatre professionals whose careers have taken them from the West End to Broadway and stages around the world. Together, they set out with a shared ambition: to bring exceptional live theatre and creative opportunities to the town they now call home, making professional performance more accessible for local audiences.
Between them, the team has worked on productions including Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Dirty Dancing, School of Rock, West Side Story and The Wizard of Oz, building careers as performers, directors, choreographers, conductors and musical directors. Now, they’re bringing that wealth of experience to audiences here in Bridgnorth.
Last year’s Broadway to Bridgnorth, featuring musical theatre favourite Bonnie Langford, demonstrated just how warmly that vision has been embraced. Tickets sold out, and many people who missed the performance were left wishing they had heard about it sooner.
“Last year’s response exceeded anything we’d hoped for,” says Jessie Hart. “So many people told us afterwards that they’d wanted to come but hadn’t realised how quickly tickets would sell. Returning this Christmas with a new production gives us the chance to welcome even more people and share what we’re creating.”
The company’s vision reaches well beyond its concerts. Alongside its professional productions, Yellow Ticket Productions runs workshops for young performers, giving aspiring singers, actors and dancers the opportunity to learn directly from experienced theatre professionals. What began with around 30 participants has already grown to more than 50, reflecting a growing enthusiasm for the performing arts within the local community.
For the team, it’s all part of the same vision – nurturing talent, inspiring audiences and proving that outstanding live theatre doesn’t have to be confined to major cities.
“The West End belongs here too,” says Jessie. “We’re passionate about creating productions that people can enjoy on their own doorstep while giving young performers opportunities to learn from those who’ve built careers in the industry.”
This December’s concert promises another memorable evening beneath the historic roof of St Leonard’s Church, where festive classics, favourite songs from the stage and outstanding live performances will come together in a unique setting. Whether you joined last year’s audience or are discovering Yellow Ticket Productions for the first time, A West End Christmas promises an evening full of music, celebration and Christmas spirit.
Looking ahead, the team hopes this is just the beginning.
“We’re building something special for Bridgnorth,” says Jessie. “If people leave smiling, singing the songs all the way home and already looking forward to the next performance, then we’ll know we’ve created something people want to be part of.”
