Walking festival marks coronation

Ironbridge Gorge Walking Festival 2013

The nine day Ironbridge Gorge Walking Festival will take place from Saturday 4th to Sunday 12th May. This year the festival will mark the 60th anniversary of The Queen’s coronation with a new circular walk around the Ironbridge gorge and a challenging 14 mile walk taking in a section of the aptly named Monarch’s Way, a long distance path following the escape route taken by Charles II after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester.

Overall, 40 free guided walks will be available, with varying of levels of difficulty, ranging from gentle family treasure hunts, to a strenuous, 15 mile circular hike over the Wrekin. All walks are free but with limited places so pre-booking is essential.

To reserve a place contact the Ironbridge Visitor Information Centre tic@ironbridge.org.uk or call 01952 433424; details can also be found on visitironbridge.co.uk/walkingfestival.
