Severn Valley Country Park in Alveley and Highley is one of the very best in the UK – and that’s official. The park has earned a Green Flag, a national award handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, which recognises the best parks and green spaces across the country.
The park, once a busy coal mine, now attracts over 130,000 visitors who come to take advantage of its natural play area, airy teashop, walking routes and cycle path. The surroundings are spectacular, with ancient woodlands, wildflower meadows and wonderful views down the valley. Alveley and Claverley councillor Tina Woodward said, “The award is a real credit to the small team of Shropshire Council staff and volunteers who dedicate a lot of their time in maintaining and improving the site, year on year.”
