Bridgnorth’s Green Festival returns

After last year’s successful launch, the second Bridgnorth Green Festival will showcase local ecological groups and retailers along with food and drink, activities, live music, entertainment and much more.

Run by Sustainable Bridgnorth, with support from Our Green Shop, this year’s event will have a Marches Energy Agency Retrofit Roadshow, information on Community Solar Schemes, electric vehicles and a Swap & Giveaway event.

It will take place this Saturday, September 9, from 11am to 4pm in Bridgnorth Castle Gardens. Admission is free, everyone welcome.

Sustainable Bridgnorth are best known for spearheading the #PreventPointlessPlastic campaign; instigating the Refill Bridgnorth scheme and obtaining accreditation in 2020, as a Plastic Free Community, by the marine conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage.

According to a recent study by the independent Office for Environmental Protection (OEP), established under the 2021 Environment Act to hold public officials and other organisations accountable, government efforts to protect and improve the environment in England are “far short” of what is required. Recent publication of the Met Office’s “State of the UK Climate” study demonstrates that the record-breaking 2022 is representative of the UK’s future climate. However, Sustainable Bridgnorth believes hope is not lost and is encouraging you to visit the festival and find out what you can do to mitigate the climate and biodiversity crises.

The Green Festival Sub-committee relies on a superb, hard-working group to manage the organisation of the event. Support is always welcome, whether on the committee or setting up /dismantling stalls and marshalling on the day, or both! It promises to be a great day out.
