Seven martial arts students from Bridgnorth who were part of the Global Taekwondo International (GTI) Squad representing England at the World Taekwondo Championships are celebrating medal success, finishing with an overall ranking of 4th out of the 77 associations that attended.
Excalibur Martial Arts student Connor McGinley, 17, took two bronzes in Cadet’s Individual Sparring and Team Sparring while Dean Lewis and Dave Rowley of LMA took gold and the world title in Men’s Veteran Black Belt Team Sparring. Dave added another two silver medals for Black Belt Patterns and Individual Sparring. Tammy Lewis, also of LMA, took silvers in Ladies’ Black Belt Individual Sparring and Team Sparring as well as a bronze in Ladies’ Black Belt Patterns. Harry Lewis, 11, missed out on a medal but earned himself an Indomitable Spirit award. Marcin Makarewicz from Bridgnorth Taekwondo also earned himself a world title, taking gold in Men’s Blue Belt Individual Sparring and silver in Men’s Blue Belt Team Sparring.
The squad members are back in training for their next national and international competitions in 2020.
