Angel takes Pride

Shropshire’s Knife Angel has once again attracted crowds – this time at Birmingham’s Pride parade, which took place over the May Bank Holiday. The sculpture, which was created at the British Ironwork Centre by sculptor Alfie Bradley to highlight the impact knife crime has on society, involved the collaboration of every police force, the Home Office, anti-violence groups, and families affected by knife crime. Government figures recently showed knife crime in the West Midlands rose by 17% between 2017 and 2018.

Birmingham Pride parade saw over 100,000 people take part, and the Knife Angel was lit up in rainbow colours for the event. The 30-foot sculpture will now move on to Derby as part of its ongoing national tour.
