Happy birthday Flossie!

A popular resident at a Shropshire care home has celebrated her 100th birthday. Flossie Timmins received a special message from the Queen congratulating her on her landmark birthday and was the guest of honour at a party laid on by staff at Myford House Nursing Home in Horsehay.

Flossie, who has lived at the Telford care home since 2015, is one of only 15,000 people in the UK who are currently over the grand age of 100. Born in Sandwell in 1918, animal-lover Flossie has lived through two world wars and two coronations – with King George V on the throne when she was born. Working for many years in the Black Country’s Hilltop Foundry as a grinder, Flossie met husband Sidney and went on to have four daughters and a total of 33 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Myford House manager Debbie Pugh says, “Flossie's such a popular resident here and always gets involved in our activities. She loves to sing, listen to music, and generally wants to keep loving life. She's also our resident balloon tennis champion!

“We wanted to put on a special party which also reflected her huge affection for animals... so we managed to get a zoologist to come in with some meerkats, snakes and hedgehogs!"
