Constituency Changes for Local Area

Proposals to shake up Parliamentary boundaries in a bid to introduce ‘greater fairness’ to the voting system by equalising the size of constituencies will have farreaching consequences for the Ludlow constituency. A new constituency, Bridgnorth and Telford South, is proposed which will combine the five wards covering Bridgnorth, Broseley, Much Wenlock and Worfield with the three wards covering Albrighton and Shifnal from The Wrekin constituency, which will be added together with all the Telford wards south of the M54. In the south of the constituency, Ludlow would combine with Leominster and extend as far as Herefordshire’s southern boundary with Monmouthshire making it one of the largest geographic seats in the country. These changes are proposed to take effect in time for the next General Election and The Boundary Commission is now consulting until 5th December when it will publish revisions based on representations made.

Local MP Philip Dunne said: “I urge local residents to take part in the public consultation, either in writing or by registering to attend the two days of Public Hearings in the Ludlow Conference Centre on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th November.” Details of the proposals and consultation can be found at: www.independent.gov.uk/oundarycommissionforengland
