If you’re looking for something challenging, fun, and that will keep you fit and healthy, the fast-growing sport of triathlon could be for you. Triathlon is a multi-discipline sport consisting of a swim, followed by a bike course and ending in a run.

In association with the Severn Centre in Highley, the Bridgnorth and Severn Centre Triathlon club (BASC Tri) is now promoting its annual sprint triathlon, which will take place on Sunday 14 May starting at the Severn Centre. Now in its fifth year, the Highley Sprint Triathlon, known as the ‘Miners’ TRIal’, is fast establishing itself as one of the most rewarding and scenic events in the West Midlands.

Julian Smith of BASC Tri says, “The event attracts people of all abilities, from novices trying the sport for the first time, to seasoned ‘ironman’ triathletes. Club members will be there to offer their support. The event involves a 400m swim in one of the few remaining heated outdoor pools in the region, an 18km bike leg that takes in stunning Shropshire scenery follows the swim and a final leg off-road 5km run, descending into the beautiful Severn Valley Country Park.”
