Cathedral composition

A former Abraham Darby pupil and Shropshire Music Service musician has gained national recognition for a choral composition she has created. Karen Kirkland, devised the choral piece ‘A Peace Blessing’ for the One Day One Choir project at Birmingham Symphony Hall. The composition is now being used for a massed choir performance at Belfast Cathedral.

Belfast Cathedral’s musical outreach project with primary schools in areas of deprivation and division includes an annual Choir of the Year competition. This year, after the schools have completed their own choice of works, they will join together to sing Karen’s composition.

“I’m very excited that they’ve chosen to perform my choral work to support such a fantastic project,” said Karen.
