Local club sails into Guinness book of records

Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson (GBR), who won the Silver Medal today, 05.08.12, in the Medal Race Men's Keelboat (Star) event in The London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.

Chelmarsh Sailing Club will be hosting a part of the largest global sailing race ever on Sunday 21 September when they take part in Bart’s Bash, and everyone is invited to go along and take part.

Bart’s Bash is being staged to celebrate the life of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, the acclaimed Olympic sailor who died last year in a training accident in San Francisco bay while preparing for the America’s Cup.

In a fitting tribute to this ‘great and selfless man’, at exactly 11am GMT, sailing clubs across the world will commence a timed race, using the specially formulated handicap system, with all results recorded.

You don’t have to be a member of the club to participate; either bring your boat along, or a club boat can be arranged. For more information about Bart’s Bash and the charities where money will be going to, visit bartsbash.co.uk and to contact Chelmarsh visit chelmarshsailing.org.uk
