Windy debate on the Edge

Edge Renewables, the owner of the quarry that sits atop Wenlock Edge, has applied for planning permission for a wind turbine which will be used for training purposes only.

Due to the sensitive nature of the area of outstanding natural beauty, which is home to several species of wild orchid as well as bats and peregrine falcons, the planning committee at Shropshire Council had deferred their consideration until they received reports back from experts.

Because of this delay, Edge Renewables has now made an appeal on the grounds that the council hasn’t reached a decision, putting the outcome in the hands of a planning inspector. The turbine would be stored lying on the ground for 28 days per month and standing for only two days per month, and would be used for training and unable to generate electricity.
