A Jackfield-based artist is planning a trip to help refugee children in Uganda. Sandy Densem is preparing for her September expedition as part of the Xavier Project, which provides sponsorship for promising students in East Africa. Sandy explains, “I’m originally from Zimbabwe, where I lived most of my life. I’m fortunate to have been born with the right to a British passport, unlike so many millions of others who now spend their lives in the ‘no-man’s land’ of refugee camps around the world.
“I’ll be working with 40 children daily, from preschool age, to young adults, and with their permission, I’d like to bring some of their artwork back to the UK and hold a fundraiser exhibition next year. My aim is to raise £1,000, and I’m very excited that I already have £150, so I’m well on my way to achieving my goal!”
